SOE: Classic Server a "Definite Possibility"
Posted on Sunday, June 07, 2009 11:30 am by Yieu
As a member on our forum pointed out, the MMO news site Massively recently interviewed the new EverQuest producer Thom Terrazas, and he had some interesting things to say regarding the possibility of a Classic EverQuest server.

In fact, he stated he thinks there is a "definite possibility" of a Classic server, and recognizes the popularity of the idea! This signifies great progress toward achieving our goal, as while the prospect of a Classic server has been popular with the old school players for quite some time (and even some newer players who did not have the chance to experience it), we have not seen many comments hinting at it becoming a real possibility until now.

Here is the relevant quote from the interview:

Massively: What's your opinion on the idea of a "Classic Server" that sometimes gets thrown about, one that's locked down to only the first handful of expansions indefinitely?

Thom Terrazas: That's kind of the thing that I touched on before, just my own experience in the game. That's when I remember the game most, and I think there's definitely a possibiltiy of that happening. It's already a popular idea. With every expansion that has come out, sometimes it can take a little bit more effort to get through that content, and you might not have the time that you used to. I think when you can touch back on something that you can remember, starting out again as a group, a bunch of friends, it's really cool to go back and do that. So I think there's a definite possibility of that.

The rest of the article is also interesting, as Thom touches on his nostalgic feelings towards the early game and the possibility of other alternate ruleset servers.

So keep spreading the petition to help make a greater impact when it is finally sent in! We now know it is a "definite possibility" and that they are definitely listening to us. Let's show them how much we want this server, along with a clear definition of what we are looking for in a Classic server's ruleset.

We now have a forum so that you may discuss your nostalgic experiences with EverQuest during the Classic era, and talk about why you enjoyed the unique style of gameplay it offered. Classic EverQuest was so great because of its community, so lets build one of our own as we continue to share the petition with others and gather more signatures in support of an official Classic EverQuest server from SOE.

Happy 10th Anniversary, EverQuest
Posted on Monday, March 16, 2009 02:00 pm by Yieu
It is hard to believe it has been 10 years already. Congratulations on 10 years, EverQuest. It goes to show the strength of the game for it to last so long. It is even more telling that there is a large following that do not even play the game anymore, but would again in a heartbeat for years to come if a Classic server as outlined in the Classic EverQuest Petition were released. Here is to many more years for the game that started it all, and to an eventual return to the Classic style it all began with.

Rekindling Desire For Classic EverQuest
Posted on Thursday, January 08, 2009 10:00 am by Yieu
The Classic EverQuest Petition was created as a service to SOE and for the Classic fans who want to enjoy the game again. We have provided the tools to help achieve the goal of a Classic EverQuest server and to rekindle the desire for Old Norrath, but it is the fans themselves who will show how popular the idea is through their support by signing the petition and spreading the word.

If you have signed the petition and know others that might be interested in Classic EverQuest, we encourage you to let them know about our site so they may sign it as well. The more signatures we have on the petition, the more powerful a message it conveys, and the faster it will spread. With your efforts, we can ensure Classic EverQuest fans everywhere are able to find out about the petition.

We have some new tools to help you assist in the quest for signatures.

There is a digg article on the new ShareThis button near the top of the News page, and we can also be found on Slashdot.

Ensuring Your Privacy
Posted on Sunday, January 04, 2009 08:00 am by Yieu
Now only initials are displayed on our site instead of full names. As privacy advocates, we decided this change would encourage more people to sign our petition without worrying about their name being displayed on the Internet, encourage people to give accurate information, and further ensure the privacy of those who sign.

Full real names are still required to sign the petition, but only initials are displayed on our site to protect your privacy. This change is possible because the actual petition is not the website itself -- the petition is the list of full signatures that will be sent to Sony Online Entertainment by certified mail when we have gathered enough support to make an impact.

This change will help protect your privacy while still providing a powerful method to show your support for a true Classic EverQuest server, because even though full names are no longer displayed on our site, signatures are still subject to our strict validation policy. For more information on this increase in privacy, please see our FAQ and Privacy Policy Statement.
